It’s nice when people are happy.
A lot of people in the CofE are happy.
As an organization, the CofE ought to be happy.
It is progressing along its intended and natural course, and the world is applauding its progression.
What is noticeable to me about the reporting of the first female “bishop” is the guilty absence of any reference to support from the Bible.
There is a simple reason for this.
There isn’t any.
I’m not being nasty or trying to spoil the CofE’s nice day.
Bu t the Bible, which is the authority for the Church, has no practice other than male leadership.
And the Bible has no instruction for the Church other than male leadership.
It seems that the CofE has concluded that it can adopt whatever legislation it wishes to allow whatever practice it desires.
Of course it can.
But one thing that it cannot do is to call itself “the Church”.
It’s a religious organization.
The Church is the body that does what the Lord Jesus Christ commands it to.
“Choose you this day whom ye will serve”.
The CofE has made its choice.
