In First Chronicles, at the end of his time as king, David had it in his heart to build the Temple.
God said no, it was for his son to do.
David is amazed that God has done what?

1Ch 28:4  Howbeit the LORD God of Israel chose me before all the house of my father to be king over Israel for ever:  ... and among the sons of my father he liked me to make me king over all Israel:

He’s moved by all this grace.
That’s what it is.
For what was there to separate him from his brothers?

What is there to separate saints from our brothers?
From our neighbours?

Eph 2:1  And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Eph 2:2  Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Eph 2:3  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

We were the same.
Born as children not of God, but of wrath!
“But God.”

Eph 2:4  But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Eph 2:5  Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Eph 2:6  And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Eph 2:7  That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

Quickened!
Raised!
Anticipating exceeding riches!


Saints must never lose the sense of wonder.
The sense of the glory of our Gospel.
The joy of His salvation!

1 Ch 29:11  Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all.

David knows it’s not because of him, but because of God,
1Ch 29:14  But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort?

It is a source of wonder that we – who are we? – should be able to offer so willingly our lives to God.
