**EXPLANATORY SERMONS BELOW
At GCW, we are convinced of:
- the authority of the Scriptures (evangelical)
- the local Church assembly (independent)
- the doctrines of grace (Reformed)
The hymnbook that we sing from is called Psalms & Hymns of Reformed Worship, and the versions of the Bible that we read are the Authorized (King James) and New King James.
We are convinced that being a believer in Jesus Christ makes us members of the body of Christ , and because we are united to Christ we are united to the other members of the body.
We have a Church Statement of Faith, and a Member Statement of Faith.
A summary of what the Bible teaches us includes:
THE HOLY SCRIPTURES
That the Bible is God’s written revelation to man, infallible, and God-breathed and the only rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience.
GOD
That there is but one living and true God, eternally existing in three Persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and that:
. God the Father orders and disposes all things according to His own purpose and grace and is sovereign in creation, providence, and redemption.
. God the Son, Jesus Christ, was virgin born, and came to reveal God, redeem men, and rule over God’s kingdom, while never divesting Himself of His divine attributes. The Lord Jesus Christ accomplished my redemption through the shedding of His blood and sacrificial death on the cross. As believing sinners we are declared righteous, given eternal life, and adopted into the family of God.
. God the Holy Spirit is the supernatural and sovereign Agent in regeneration and sanctification, indwelling every believer from the moment of salvation.
MAN
That God made man in His own image and likeness, free of sin, but in Adam’s sin all have become inherently corrupt and incapable of doing that which is acceptable to God apart from divine grace.
That salvation is wholly of God by grace on the basis of the redemption of God the Son, Jesus Christ, the merit of His shed blood, and not on the basis of human merit or works.
That, by the work of God the Holy Spirit, there is a progressive sanctification by which the believer is brought closer to the standing the believer positionally enjoys through justification.
That, once saved, all are kept by God’s power and are thus secure in Christ forever.
THE CHURCH
That all who by faith are in Christ are immediately part of one united spiritual Body, the Church, and in local churches believers gather primarily to hear the Word of God proclaimed, to engage in corporate worship, to practice the ordinances of baptism and the Lord‘s Supper, to build each other‘s faith, to pray, and to gladly submit to the God-ordained authority of the elders.
THE GOSPEL
That the Gospel is the good news, revealed in the birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension God the Son, Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ’s crucifixion is the heart of the Gospel, and He is the only mediator between God and man – there is no other name by which men must be saved.
LAST THINGS
That our Lord Jesus Christ will make a personal, bodily return to be joined together with all who are His.
That our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the Judge of all men, will resurrect and judge the great and small at the throne of judgment, whereupon the saved will enter the eternal state of glory with God and the unsaved will be committed to an eternal conscious punishment in the lake of fire.
